My apologies that I didn’t post yesterday, but here I am today. And it’s a brand-new day! 😊
Let’s dive right in…
Hiking boots. They signify a journey. You wear hiking boots on an adventure. You can trek through mud, valleys, storms, sunshine, and flowers.
Maybe you aren’t going on a hike each day, yet we are always on mini journeys. Different aspects of our lives are on different parts of a trail. Different seasons.
Perhaps you are serving others well and you are experiencing such joy! Dancing in the sunshine and hearing soulful birdsong, is frequently experienced on this road.
But maybe loving those who hurt you is hard. That trail is SO muddy. Your boots get stuck and wrenching them off seems like such a blessed relief. You fear the gathering clouds as if, “Even a shower of dew-drops from a branch might tear me [you] in pieces.” (C.S Lewis The Great Divorce, pg. 59)
Then, maybe prayer feels like snow. Prayer sparkles white and pure, a wedding veil coating the trees. The road isn’t always marked, but why worry? Talking with God puts you in such an awe-filled state.
In each part of our lives, we are on various paths and stages. Everything is a journey. Today we must take steps forward, to the right and left, and sometimes step back from something.
Encompassing these small paths is the giant one we travel with the Lord, where we are constantly choosing to be a follower of Christ.
Then he said to them all, “If anyone wants to follow after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow me.” Luke 9:23 (CSB)
We must take up our cross daily.
And sometimes we stumble and feel on the verge collapse. Yet listen to God’s words spoken over Joshua, I fully believe they were uttered for our ears too:
As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you. Joshua 1:5 (NIV)
though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with his hand. Psalm 37:24 (NIV)
As a follower of Christ, He is with you and stands near to catch you in those different seasons of your service, love, prayer life and everything else! Let this truth resonate in your mind and bring comfort.
My challenge for you is: Will you let Him who loves you so much, guide your steps, or will you yank on His arm to run a different direction?
What might determine your steps today?
- Your schedule?
- Your job?
- Your desires for what the day should hold?
Or does the God who stands a hand-breath away and readily gave up His Son for you, determine where your feet tread?
In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps. Proverbs 16:9 (NIV)
P.S I’ll post about the verse Isaiah 6:8 on Friday. 🙂
